My name is Maren Nelson.

Graphic Designer, Art Director, & Strategist in Minneapolis, MN

I’m Maren and I make work that solves problems and brings beauty and joy into everyday life. A multidisciplinary designer of graphics, solutions, stories, and experiences, I believe that good design is born from even better design thinking.

A lifelong Minneapolitan, I have spent my career working to uplift my community and amplify the voices of our neighbors. Over a decade working in human-centered nonprofits has informed the work that do, giving me a deep understanding of the importance of disruptive yet compassionate storytelling. I take pride in being a mission-based designer and strive to share meaningful stories and build connection through beautiful design.

My varied background spans nonprofit program development, marketing and communications, brand design and strategy, copywriting, fund development, corporate communications, as well as exhibit and event design. The result of which is that I bring unique ideas and uncommon insights to every project. I don’t think like other people and that is one of my greatest strengths.

For over 10 years, I have designed for diverse audiences—from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies, as well as labor, advocacy, nonprofit, and political organizations and campaigns. This work includes brand development, visualization of complex ideas, asset production through print and digital design, and systems- and capacity-building.

My personal style is heavily influenced by nostalgia, maximalism, and analogue texture. That said, I also understand the great responsibility of caring for and carefully telling someone else's story. If you are looking for an innovative designer with a strategic mind to help share your story with the world, let's talk!
