Riverside Plaza.
Riverside Plaza has always been one of my favorite building complexes in the city. A Ralph Rapson design, it’s an iconic design that now reminds me of our amazing Somali community in Minneapolis. The buildings are not without problems and as they house low-income neighbors the building managers have not kept it up as they should. That said, a Minneapolis skyline would feel naked without these towers.
Compared to the little houses I’ve drawn, this was just epic and took what felt like forever. So many windows. So. Many. Windows. That said, it’s one of my favorites to date. I loved imagining the people behind each window and the views they might have. And I thought about how we need to be supporting our neighbors and providing safe, updated, and dignified housing for everyone.
